How I scaled my subscription business to 10,000 monthly subscribers and $10M+ in total sales
Without a huge team ❌
An unlimited budget ❌
Or even any prior business experience ❌
And with only $3000 startup capital 💸
This step-by-step process has been used successfully by countless other founders like me
I.E. It’s not a fluke
Step 1. Get clear on who your customers is
In the beginning it’s tempting to just create a product that you like
Or that you think would help someone
But you could be wrong
Instead, identify your ideal customer
Focus on finding a person with a problem.
That person may have been you in the past, maybe not
Think how can you help them to overcome that problem with your products or service?
People don’t buy products they buy solutions to problems
Or to increase their status
Help them and they will pay you
Step 2. Get clear on HOW you help that customer
When you know who your customer is
E.G. dog owners short on time
You can think of ways to save them time while caring for their dog
This is the genesis of your solution to their problem
This is what your product will help them to achieve
This allows you to also think about other problems you can help solve for them – adding features to your product
The bigger the problem, the more likely someone will buy your solution
Finalise the product you sell and package into a subscription
A monthly box, a membership site, a software product or coaching services
Now you’re ready to begin testing & selling your product
Step 3. Optimise your website to convert
In order to effectively get people to buy your product, you need to brainstorm all of the problems your products can solve for them
These are the features of your product, and we need to connect them to the benefits the customer will get
I.E. the solutions your product offers them
Then we need to create a simple website and fill it out with these solutions in the form of benefit-driven sales copy
Add some images and a killer offer and we’re well on our way
Pro tip: your offer will be the #1 factor that determines whether someone signs up or not
Step 4. Leverage email marketing
Before you drive any traffic you need to think ahead
Not everyone is going to buy right away, in fact most people don’t
So we need a way to capture interested people as email leads
Set up a popup, 2 step form, signup flow or quiz to grab their email as they look around your site
Then we will set up automated reminders and email blasts to get them back over to convert

Step 5. Drive traffic profitably
Now we can start to work on increasing website traffic
Organic can work, but its slow and tedious
You can produce content, but expect it to take 2-3 years to pay off
To go faster, it’s pay to play
Create ads on social platforms focusing on the pain points and problems you identified your customer had from step 1
Image ads are easiest to create, again your offer will be the key to getting the click
When you get some results for initial customers, video testimonial ads are also powerful
Step 6. Refine your offering
The offer is the key to success with subscription marketing
In order to convince someone to pay you each month, you need to incentivise them to give it a try
Free gift, discount, free consultation, free trial
All of these can work, even combinations of 2 or more
When you find the right offer, you’ll know
You’ll be getting more subscribers in a day than you used to get in a month
P.S. It may take several (2-10) tries to find the right offer
Step 7. Upsell, retain and win-back
Now that you’ve got your acquisition sorted
It’s time to turn those subscribers into pure profit for your business
Leverage email, SMS and other communication channels to keep people engaged, gather feedback and find ways to keep them subscribed
Then, offer more value and solve more problems to earn more profit
People are never done buying
Read that again
You can get creative in your solutions and put them in front of people
Your customer value can double and your business can scale to the moon
I’ll see you there!
